The Department of Horticulture and food technology, Campus Weihenstephan (Freising), invites applications for the position of a Professorship in "Business Management im Gartenbau und in der Lebensmittelwirtschaft”expected to start in the winter semester 2025/2026 or commencing as soon as possible.
Responsibilities in Teaching and Research:
The professorship offers undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the following subject areas:
• Organization and management of companies in the horticultural business and the food industry: Basics of business administration, especially for small and medium-sized companies, including corporate governance, investment and financing, human resources and labor management as well as marketing
• Organization and coordination of the sustainable development of these companies: sustainable corporate management, sustainability management, innovation management and development of new business models
The professorship is involved in interdisciplinary modules as well as in basic methodological subjects. In addition, active participation in the strategic development of the faculty and the future range of courses is expected. The teaching of the professorship is therefore offered in German and English. Networking within the faculty's range of courses and beyond is desired.
The professors in the faculty pool their research activities at the Institutes of Horticulture (IGB) and Food Technology (ILM). The professorship is expected to be highly committed to applied research and the development of these institutes. The professorship is primarily intended to examine the economic viability and management of horticultural and food industry companies in production and trade. A focus should be placed on small and medium-sized companies as well as family-run enterprises. The focus should be on sustainability-oriented innovations in horticultural value chains or in the food industry as well as “sustainable business management”. System-oriented thinking and a holistic view of the affected value creation networks should be aimed for.
The university expects the successful candidate to play an active role in the further develop-ment of applied research. Responsibilities of the professorship include the supervision of in-ternships, project papers and theses, teaching courses in English language as well as participation in academic self-administration. The ability to teach specialized topics in adjacent fields of research is highly desired. Your Profile:
You have completed a university degree in horticultural or agricultural sciences with a focus on economics, food industry, business administration or macroeconomics, as well as related economic studies with relevant practical and scientific work in the subject area of the professorship. During your professional activity, you have acquired in-depth knowledge of the economics and management of companies in the hortibusiness and the food industry in production and trade and are very familiar with modern research methods for management and innovation research in small and medium-sized companies or family-run enterprises in this sector.
You are enthusiastic about interactive teaching, you develop course contents further and design contemporary seminar-style lessons with a high level of practical relevance. You also have experience in applied research and the acquisition of projects and are able to implement future-oriented research projects and to publicize in international journals. You are a team player, enjoy working in an interdisciplinary manner and have good contacts with operational practice, research institutions and relevant associations. Requirements:
- completed first university degree,
- pedagogical aptitude,
- particular ability for scientific and scholarly work as proven by a doctoral degree or comparable academic qualification (in German: "Gutachten über promotionsadäquate Leistungen").
- Furthermore, we require expertise in the application or development of scientific findings and methods obtained during a period of at least five years of professional practice after graduation from university. Of these, at least three years must be in a field outside university. Professional experience outside university might be recognized, if the candidate has spent a significant part of the position working in a cooperation between university and non-university institutions for a minimum of 5 years.
