Gender & Diversity
A University of Applied Sciences is a place of study, research, and dealing with practical issues, but also a place of life where people spend much time with other people, working and learning together. At the University of Applied Sciences, people come together from various biographical backgrounds and talents that make up its individual value.
Whether in the student body or among the university staff, whether through the promotion of women or family support - equality and diversity are a living reality at the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf. That starts with gender-appropriate language, leads to continuous dialogue on gender and diversity issues and manifests itself in various concrete measures.
Mission statement
At the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf, people are the focus: we promote their talent development in an open working and learning environment. We derive our strategies from the potential of their diversity and offer equal opportunities in all aspects.

University Development Plan
University Development Plan | Strategic Goals until 2025
We focus on education and research for sustainable development as a consistent further development of the "green profile", which is characterised by applied life sciences and green technologies. That includes, in particular, the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes offered at our Departments of Bioengineering (BI), Horticulture and Food Technology (GL), Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition (LT), Landscape Architecture (LA), Sustainable Agriculture and Energy Systems (AE), Environmental Engineering (UT), and Forestry (WF).This profile is complemented by the research activities at the seven departments and our four research institutes - Institute of Horticulture (IGB), Institute of Food Technology (ILM), Institute of Ecology and Landscape (IÖL) and Biomass Institute (BIT).
We teach and live sustainability. We integrate future-relevant topics of sustainable development into teaching, research and further education in our university organisation.
APPLIED SCIENCES FOR LIFE
As part of an ongoing participatory process, we have defined our eight strategic goals until 2025 based on our values. That was deliberately done in a very concise and memorable form. Our strategic goals for 2025 are also based on the Innovation Alliance 4.0, which all Bavarian universities of applied sciences, universities and the Bavarian state government signed in July 2018. The goals formulated below are not exclusive and refer to the period up to max. 2025. Should there be significant reasons in the meantime, such as a relevant change in fundamental framework conditions, to adjust the strategic goals, it is at the discretion of the university management to do so in the interest of the University of Applied Sciences.

bukof - Policy Paper "Sexualised Discrimination and Violence at Universities of Applied Sciences".
Our concern: Informing and de-tabooing
Sexualised discrimination and violence (SDG) is a largely taboo and often underestimated problem in all areas of society. Universities of applied sciences as places of work and education are - in this respect - unfortunately no safe spaces.
Updated policy paper (June 2022): In a two-year process, the bukof worked on the structure and topics of the handout "Sexualised Discrimination and Violence at Universities of Applied Sciences" from the ground up, first in working groups and later in plenary.

bukof - "Standpoints for a gender-equitable higher education policy"
"The greatest danger to equality is the myth that we already have it."
(Grethe Nestor)Position paper of the bukof - "Standpoints for a gender-equitable higher education policy".
Universities of applied sciences are places from which important social impulses emanate. They are mirrors of society and, at the same time, public institutions bound by various laws. However, universities of applied sciences do not yet comply with the gender equality stipulated in the Basic Law. From study conditions to the proportion of female professors, from working conditions to the attribution of care tasks, there are considerable differences between the sexes at all universities of applied sciences and an understanding of gender-orientation towards the binary norm.
Gender bias effects and discriminatory mechanisms to sexualised discrimination and violence - all contribute to maintaining these differences. In addition, gender equality work at universities of applied sciences in Germany is characterised by very different framework conditions, structures and processes that are not sufficient and reliable everywhere. -

LaKoF principles for promoting diversity, gender equality, inclusion and ensuring protection against discrimination in the academic environment
Modern universities of applied sciences are places of innovation. That is where new knowledge is created and passed on to students, the economy and society. Universities of applied sciences thus contribute significantly to the future of social coexistence. However, the modern University of Applied Sciences is not only characterised by innovations in research and teaching but also must exemplify and convey respectful and non-discriminatory coexistence within its organisation following the requirements of a diverse society.
